Parents and the School

Parents are welcome in Oakwood Junior School as we know that children learn most effectively if parents and school work in partnership with each other. During the year there will be opportunities for you to visit school and discuss, with your child's Class teacher, your son's/daughter's progress. A report will be sent home in the summer term and will provide a basis for discussion. Targets will be set for your child and these will be discussed with you.

Apart from these formal meetings however, please feel free to make an appointment at any time to see the class teacher, if you have any specific queries you wish to raise. Please make your approach in the first instance through the Headteacher and do not go straight to a child's classroom, as this could disrupt a lesson.

Parents are often invited to take part in school life in other ways: assisting with supervision of children at the swimming baths, accompanying school journeys, listening to children read, working with other parents to produce items for sale at school fairs. helping with transport to sports fixtures. Family learning has a high priority in our school. We have a variety of classes in school for adults and children to learn together. Such as Family French, gardening with Grandparents. As well as this we also have learning sessions just for adults related to topics such as keeping up with the child, computer skills and healthy eating.  I do hope that you will feel able to become part of OUR school.

If you have any worries or concerns, please tell us. A quick phone call, a note to  school, or a brief chat can easily solve a problem and save hours of worrying. Although we hope that difficulties will not arise, sometimes they do and then is the  time to act.
