Dear Parents / Carers

We're two weeks into this half term and because Easter is so early we've only got another three weeks before we break up, so time is flying even more quickly than usual! There's quite a lot to tell you about and important dates for your diary at the end of the newsletter.

Staffing
I'm pleased to let you know that we've appointed Miss Cassie Hurt to replace Mrs Sly who left us at half term. Miss Hurt is really looking forward to joining us and I'm sure that she will quickly settle into being part of our team. A cross section of children from Year 5 and Year 6 were part of the interview panel and had a chance to ask questions to the candidates that were important to them. This was judged to be the hardest and most demanding part of the interview!
Mr Jordan will be leaving us just before Easter as he is relocating to Yorkshire, so I'm sure we'd like to wish him the best of luck for the future! Mrs Lloyd Brown will be standing in for him and will be with us until Xmas. She is a very well experienced teacher and will work hard to ensure a smooth transition.
Mrs Kirby will be retiring as Midday Supervisor after being with us for over 15 years. She doesn't want any fuss but I'd like to thank her for all her hard work and wish her a long and happy retirement.
A French student from Corsica will be working in school with Miss Cavey's class up until Easter. It will be interesting learning about education from a French perspective.

Questionaires - your views count
At this time of year I send out questionnaires to Year 3 and Year 6 parents to canvas views about our school. The information will feed back into the priorities we will be putting together for September, so your views do count. I welcome any feedback about not only what works well, but also about what you think needs further improvement. It is our school so this information is really important. Please take a few minutes of your time to fill in the questionnaire - it shouldn't take too long. The children will also be asked their opinions. School councillors will be asking a cross selection of children (randomly chosen) and the results reported back to everyone.

Multicultural Evening
I've already mentioned in my previous newsletter about the event in school, which will be coming up on the 23rd March. It will be a really exciting and interesting evening, with children and a range of outside providers coming into school offering a host of different events and experiences. The children will be writing you invites and if you can come return the reply slip and we can then issue tickets as numbers will be restricted. It will be an evening to remember and one not to be missed!!

Bingo Evening
A huge success and one that we'll certainly be repeating. Mrs Bryan was an ace bingo caller and Mrs Carter made an excellent job of organising the evening. Really sorry to the parents who were turned away because there was no more room in the hall. We raised £244.41 for school funds. Thanks to everyone who came - hope you enjoyed it as much as I did - although I didn't win anything!

Creative Partnerships
We were successful in our bid to join an initiative called Creative Partnerships funded partly by the Arts Council whereby artists come into school to work with the children over a sustained period of time. Fifteen schools were chosen across the city and the whole initiative is being launched in a high profile event at the Assembly Rooms on 7th March. 15 of our children will be going to represent our school in this event. I'm really looking forward to the partnerships that will develop from this partnership, which will certainly enhance the experiences we already offer in our school.

Girl's Football
Miss Wardle arranged for a group of girls to play in a football tournament at JJB Sports. They did us proud and missed playing in the final by one point! Well done to all the girls taking part and thanks for all the help and support from the parents and other adults who arranged transport.

Web Page
Just a reminder that we do have a web page, which is regularly updated. If you've not accessed this yet there is some interesting information there. Mrs Russell (our office manager) was thinking of asking parents for e-mail addresses so that newsletters etc can be sent electronically, rather that a paper copy - that doesn't always arrive home! Obviously the paper copy will be sent to you if you prefer, but I think e-mailing is a much cheaper and effective way of communicating with you. What do you think? Let us know.
