Dear Parents / Carers

Summer is now upon us (you can tell by the fine weather!!), so our attention is turning to the Summer Fayre on Thursday 7th July. We will have a variety of stalls including cakes, games, bouncy castle, ice cream, white elephant, tombola and lucky dip. There will also be displays including the Upper and Lower school’s Football Final, dance displays and the obstacle course final. If you have any nearly new items, unwanted gifts, bric-a-brac, books games etc. we will be very pleased to receive them for our white elephant stall. If you fancy lending a hand, please contact Betty Carter at school.

Staffing
We will be extremely sorry to say goodbye to Miss Wardle, who is leaving us at the end of this term as she is moving to a new school in Nottingham. Staff, pupils and colleagues will miss her. She will be replaced by Miss Dayman, whom we all look forward to working with from September. In October, Laure Vadepied, will be joining us, a foreign language assistant from France, more details to follow at a later date.

Vacancies
We currently have a Parent Governor and an LEA Governor vacancy. If you are interested in either of these positions please contact Karan Russell, Clerk to Governors, at the school office. The school crossing patrol has still not been filled. If you are interested, or know of somebody that may be interested please contact Linda Harrington on 07971 599 112.

PE Kit
Thanks for your support with the P.E. kit. Many of the children are now looking very smart for games and sports activities. I know some parents are waiting for September to buy a new P.E. kit so by then we should have virtually everyone white and black. For those of you that have not ordered one yet, there will be another chance at the beginning of next month when we will be sending everyone on Years 2 – 5 an order form for the school uniform, which will include sweatshirts, cardigans and fleeces as well as the new P.E. kit.

Music Tuition
The school offers tuition on brass and woodwind instruments, which has been very popular this year. Instruments can be hired and each lesson costs £3.50 – learning to play an instrument is a real talent, so have a think and if your child is interested please contact the school office.

Lottery Bid Success
Well done to Mrs Carter and Mrs Fray on their successful lottery bid for Year 6. We have been awarded £1700 as part of a special lottery programme called Veterans Reunited, which is a grant set up to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Second World War. The money will be used to fund a variety of events and equipment such as:
  • A year group trip to the Brewhouse Museum, Nottingham (transport and entry fee paid)
  • Oakwood Junior School Street Party – local veterans and children to enjoy dancing, games and eating!
  • Digital cameras – to capture the moment for future reference
  • ICT equipment – for processing photographs and interviews

This is a great opportunity for the Year 6 children, all of who studied the Second World War in the Autumn Term, to consolidate their knowledge and hear real life stories from the local community. If you know of anybody who has stories of interest to share with the children about this time in history perhaps you could contact either Mrs Carter or Mrs Fray as we would like to share our street party with the local community.
