Dear Parents / Carers

We are rapidly approaching the end of our school year and it’s difficult to believe that we’ve just over a week left. Our work this half term has been focussed on healthy minds, healthy bodies so it’s a bit ironic that I’ve been off with a rather nasty virus for the last month. Since arriving back I’ve had to spend a lot of time trying to catch up with everything that’s been going on. We’ve had so many events happening both in and out of school, visitors, rehearsals etc. etc. it’s a lot to take in! Whilst I’ve been away Mr Darby and all the staff in school have been absolutely brilliant!
The Assembly Rooms in town has been the venue for some singing by the Year 3’s and a dance put together by Miss Cavey’s class and Miss Hurt. The Year 6’s have had a busy time. They have been focussing some of their work around VE Celebrations and have visited a museum in Nottingham and enjoyed their street party last week. Fitness testing, cricket coaching, football training and a skipping workshop have taken place and there’s also been a Fit ‘n’ Fun class after school. We’ve had people coming in from Moorways, Derby County, Athletics and support from Noel Baker. So all in all we’re ending the term a lot fitter and with a better understanding of living a healthy lifestyle.
At present we have an artist in school who will be meeting with a cross section of children making willow structures. One thing I’m always pleased about is that whenever we have visitors in school the children always do us proud by behaving well and politely, which I’m very pleased about as they are a credit to us.

Staffing
The children will soon know whose class they will be joining next year. We have kept the classes as groups, rather than splitting them up.
At the end of this term we will be saying a very sad goodbye to Miss Wardle who will be moving to a new school in Nottingham. I would really like to thank Miss Wardle for all her hard work – her new school is really lucky to have such a talented and enthusiastic teacher. I know you will want to wish her well.
Mrs Miller will also be starting her maternity leave at the end of this term, as baby number 2 is due mid September.
Miss Dayman will be replacing Miss Wardle in Year 5 and Miss Chapman will be joining the Year 3 team as the Special Needs Teaching Assistant.

New Year Groups
The new year group teams are as follows:

Goodbyes
We will also be saying goodbye to our present Year 6 who will be moving to Secondary school in September. I know that everyone in school wish our Year 6’s all the best and we look forward to hearing positive reports about them from their new teachers. It’s a big step but I know that they are ready for the new challenges ahead of them.

Summer Fayre
The Summer Fayre was a great success – good weather, a lovely atmosphere and an amazing £921 raised for our school funds. Special thanks to Mrs Carter, whose excellent organisation skills ensured that the afternoon ran smoothly. Thanks also to everyone who donated things, helped on the stalls and everyone who came on the day. Another good example of teamwork!

School Uniform
School uniform can be bought from school – please see the office for further details. I did ask parents their opinion a couple of newsletters ago about trainers for school. A number of parents did contact me to say that they would be relieved if trainers were not allowed for everyday footwear in school, as it would save a lot of arguments at home regarding the need to buy expensive designer trainers. So from September all children should wear sensible shoes, preferably black, for school. Your support for this change will be welcomed.

I hear that last night’s performance of Joseph went really well. Despite the heat, the Year 6’s rose to the occasion with an outstanding performance.
Photos now on the Photographs page.
And that just leaves me to say thank you for all your support over the year, which is very much appreciated by us all in school. Whether you’re going away or not I hope you enjoy your summer break.

Best wishes
