My name is Judith Russ, I have three children aged 24,11 and 7. I have been a parent governor since July 2010. I became a parent governor because I am interested in the quality of education for children and I wanted to put something back into the school and community. I work in the Social Care sector as a manager. I would like school to be challenging and fun and to bring the best out in children as well as to help them to grow up to be positive citizens.

Hello, my name is Valerie Dalling and this is my second year as a Community and Learning Mentor Link Governor. I have lived in Derbyshire with my family for over 30 years now, and enjoy working with the community. Most of my spare time is spent outdoors either with my camera, in the garden or walking the dog!

I was first introduced to Oakwood Junior School in my professional capacity as an artist, getting to know the children and staff, and working with them on various photographic projects. When I was invited to become a Governor I didn’t hesitate, seeing it as an opportunity for me to support the excellent work that is continually being done to achieve and maintain high educational standards for the school.

Hello, I am Nicola Fray. I have been a teacher at Oakwood Junior for over ten years and am currently one of the Assistant Heads and SENCO (Special Needs Coordinator). I am a Staff Governor and my role is to keep staff and governors up to date with each others roles. My governors position has given me the opportunity to experience Oakwood from a different viewpoint and this has provided me with a much wider perspective of the school. Over the years I have been lucky enough to have been part of many decisions and votes which have resulted in making Oakwood the exciting and forward thinking school it is today.

Hello, my name is Rob Grimes and I’ve been a Parent Governor at Oakwood since mid-2011. I’ve been working in IT for the past 25 years for various companies across the UK and in my free time I enjoy Sketching and Custom Motorcycles. I also volunteer as the Sound Engineer at Boulton St. Mary’s Church and am a qualified Door Supervisor. My responsibilities as a governor include the upkeep of this part of the website and also membership of varied panels and working parties including: Recruitment, Writing Targets & Pupil Discipline. Although I have not been a governor for very long, I hope that I can use my experience to make sure that Oakwood continues to be one of the best schools in the area.

I have been a governor at Oakwood for eight years. In that time I have seen the school grow and develop into the forward thinking, exciting school it is today and look forward to the future with great anticipation.

Hello, I am Jenny Hinton and I have been a Local Authority Governor since mid-2011. I am a dance consultant and the founder of UpBeat Community Dance. I taught at Merrill College for 20 years, and set up major dance projects in local primary schools. My interests include my family, the countryside, gardening, reading, theatre and cooking. I love travelling and had a 3 week tour of India in 2011. A future project is to spend 3 weeks in London for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. It is a privilege to be a Governor here as Oakwood is a delightful school, with high standards and a lovely atmosphere. In my first year I have helped out on school trips to "feel my way", and I hope to become a useful friend to the school.

Hi, I’m Cassie Hurt and you will know me as a teacher and Assistant Head in school. As an Associate Governor, I participate in meetings and discussions but don’t have a vote. I wanted to join Oakwood’s Governing body to be part of the important decision making that takes place in order to move our school forward and make it a successful place to learn and be. I have been a Governor for 5 years, and have been involved in the curriculum and safeguarding committees. I thoroughly enjoy being involved in the Governors at Oakwood and see it as an important role within the school and the community. It is our role to ensure we impact on standards and the children have a safe, nurturing and positive learning environment in which they can flourish and achieve
